Beirut Art Magazine had the chance and pleasure to interview the woman behind the success of Art Corner, held yearly at Beirut Arab Book fair.
Where are you from and what is your background?
I’m a lebanese artist from Beirut, studied fine arts and interior design at Beirut University College but didn’t have the chance to work or paint until my three children finished their school education. An opportunity came up with the” Arab Cultural Club” in organizing their art exhibitions, curating, and selecting workshops for artists from Lebanon and from other countries. That opportunity encouraged me to paint and participate as well in many collective exhibitions. Then I founded my own Gallery and workshop,” White Space Gallery” , where I helped and taught many artists to be, at that time.
How long have you been in the art field?
I’ve been in the art field for about 18 years.
As the Art Curator and Director at Arab Cultural Club, what are the criteria you look for to do an art exhibition?
I look at the CV of the artist, his/her education, check the profile and social media to make sure that the artwork is original and the paintings are not printed or copied.
Some artists prefer to draw live infront of me, to show their skills and capabilities since they don’t believe in just sending the images of their art.
What role does the artist have in society?
The role of the artist is to deliver a message, and express ideas by painting, using his own style, colors and techniques and materials.
Do you think art exhibitions will go back to normal?
Hopefully, yes. There has to be a direct eye contact between the visitor recipient and the painting to feel it, live it, and love it.
Do you listen to music when you’re painting?
Yes of course, music inspires artists and adjusts their moods.
What inspires you to paint?
Humanitarian situations, nature, visiting art exhibitions is inspiring & encouraging as well.
How much time does it take to complete a painting?
It depends on the size of the painting and on its details.
What do you like about your work?
I love my work, it reflects my ideas and my messages clearly.
